What Meta gives you for comments (as of 5th Nov, 2026)
Meta Business Suite has a comments area in its Inbox, where you can see comments on your Facebook and Instagram posts and reply from one place. Business Suite also has automated responses for the Inbox, such as instant replies and keyword replies. Meta updates these options, so confirm on its help page on automated responses which of them apply to comments on your account.
Meta lists the current inbox options on its official page: About automated responses in Meta Business Suite Inbox (opens in a new tab). For comments, the dependable route from answer to inbox conversation is the private reply flow described below.
What a tool can do through Meta's official messaging API
Tools that work with Meta's official API use a feature called a private reply. It lets a Page send a private message to a person who commented on its post. The rules in Meta's developer documentation, as of 5th Nov, 2026:
- One message only. Only one message can be sent to the person who commented.
- Within 7 days. The message must be sent within 7 days of when the post or comment was created.
- A link comes with it. The message includes a link to the post or comment.
- Then the person must answer. You can continue the chat only after they reply, and then inside the 24-hour messaging window.
- Not to other Pages. You cannot send a private reply to another Facebook Page.
The first private message has one job: make it easy for the buyer to answer. If they reply, the chat opens. If they do not, no second private message can be sent for that comment. For how the 24-hour window works after they reply, read the Messenger 24-hour rule.
A five-step flow for “price” and “details” comments
- Spot the comment. “Price?”, “dam koto”, “details”, “available?” and “inbox” all mean the same thing: a buyer is asking.
- Reply in public within a few minutes. Keep it short and courteous, and say the details are on their way to the inbox.
- Send one private message immediately. Include the price and the one question that moves the sale forward (size, colour or area).
- When they answer, take the order in the inbox. Confirm name, phone, address and payment there, not in the comment thread.
- If they do not answer, follow up only within the rules. A second private reply cannot be sent.
Keep phone numbers, addresses and payment details out of the public thread. Anything private belongs in the inbox.
Copy-ready replies in Bangla
Adapt the product details to your shop. Write as a person would, not as a template.
| Use | Message |
|---|---|
| Public reply to “price?” | জি, দাম আর ডিটেইলস ইনবক্সে পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছি। একটু দেখে নিন। |
| Public reply to “details” | ধন্যবাদ। সব ডিটেইলস আপনার ইনবক্সে দিচ্ছি। |
| First inbox message | আসসালামু আলাইকুম। পোস্টে আপনি দাম জানতে চেয়েছিলেন। এই প্রোডাক্টের দাম ১,৪৫০ টাকা। কোন সাইজ বা রঙ লাগবে বলবেন? |
| If they ask for the address | অর্ডার করতে আপনার নাম, ফোন নম্বর আর পুরো ঠিকানা লিখে দিন। আমরা কনফার্ম করে দেব। |
Spam, abuse and hiding comments
Not every comment is a buyer. Links to other pages, abuse and copy-pasted offers do not warrant a sales reply. Hide or remove them using the options Facebook provides on a comment. Facebook updates these menus, so check its Help Center for the current steps on your account.
- Do not argue with abuse in public. Hide it and move on.
- A genuine complaint is not abuse. Answer it politely and move the details to the inbox.
- Keep a note of what you hid, so a genuine customer is never hidden by mistake.
Mistakes that can get a Page restricted
Meta's messaging policy states that breaking its Developer Policies can restrict a Page's ability to send messages. The policy page names message tag misuse and missed response rules as causes. The last two points below are our own recommended practice, not Meta's wording:
- Misusing message tags. Using a tag outside its approved use cases may result in restrictions on sending messages.
- Ignoring the response rules. Automated bots must answer any input within 30 seconds, and a bot that does not fix this within 7 days may have its ability to send messages limited.
- Hiding that it is a bot. Where the law requires it, automated chats must say they are automated. Disclosing it is sound practice in any case.
- Selling to people who did not ask. Use the private reply only for people who commented, and only about what they asked.
Read the full Messenger Platform policy overview (opens in a new tab) and Meta's Community Standards. This guide is not a complete list of what is allowed.
Measure your reply time
A dashboard is not required to start. Pick one product post and, for a week, record when each “price” comment arrived and when you answered. Then count how many of those people replied in the inbox. If many buyers comment at night, see how a Messenger auto reply covers that gap, and how to keep track of them with lead management for Facebook sellers.
How LeadRevive approaches it
LeadRevive is our product. Its Comment Sales agent reads comments on your Facebook and Instagram posts, sorts them, answers simple questions in public, and moves buyers and complaints into a private chat. Buyers arrive in the shared inbox, where the Sales agent takes the order, and a log records what it did. See the features and pricing pages for details.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send more than one private message to a commenter?
No. Meta's developer documentation says only one message can be sent to the person who commented. After they reply, you can continue inside the 24-hour messaging window.
How long do I have to send the private reply?
Within 7 days of when the post or comment was created, according to Meta's documentation as of 5th Nov, 2026. Reply sooner, because buyer interest fades quickly.
Does Meta Business Suite reply to comments automatically?
Business Suite has automated responses for the Inbox. For comments, the private reply flow above is the dependable route, and Meta's help page lists the options available to your account.
Should the price be in the public reply?
It is your choice. Many sellers keep the public reply short and put the price in the private message, so the buyer starts a chat. If you list prices openly, say so in the post.
Can I use this on Instagram comments?
The rules above come from Meta's Facebook Messenger documentation. Instagram has its own rules, so check Meta's Instagram messaging documentation separately.
