What AI sales automation means in chat
If you sell on Messenger, Instagram or WhatsApp, your sales process is a conversation. Sales automation places software inside it, so a customer who writes at midnight receives an answer, and a customer who goes quiet receives a follow-up.
An AI sales assistant differs from a menu bot. It reads a free-form message, such as "price koto?" or "size M ache?", and writes a reply from your product list and your rules. Rules are the decisive element. An assistant without a price floor, a delivery charge and a return policy will guess, and a guess in a sales chat costs money.
- AI sales assistant: handles the conversation and the order steps.
- Rules you set: lowest price, delivery charge, advance requirement, return policy.
- A person: takes over anything the AI should not decide.
The chat sales funnel, step by step
Every chat sale passes through roughly the same steps. For each step, the table shows what AI does well, what still needs a person, and the guardrail that keeps it safe. It describes a typical seller; your business may differ.
| Step | AI handles well | Needs a human | Guardrail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enquiry | Instant first reply, product questions, size and colour, photos | Unusual or technical questions | Answer only from your product list and rules |
| Price | Quoting your listed price and delivery charge | Custom or bulk quotes | Never quote a price that is not in your list |
| Negotiation | Small, rule-based bargaining | Large discounts, special deals, regular customers | A floor price the AI can never go below |
| Name, phone, address | Asking for each detail and checking nothing is missing | Unclear or unusual addresses | Repeat the summary and get the customer to confirm it |
| Payment or advance | Asking for the advance or delivery charge by bKash or Nagad, and reminding | Disputed or unclear payments | Confirm an order only once your rule for payment is met |
| Confirmation | Sending the order summary | Changes to a confirmed order | Changes after confirmation go to you |
| Delivery | Parcel updates and answers to "where is my order" | Lost, damaged or late parcels | No promised delivery time that you did not set |
| Follow-up | One or two polite messages to customers who went quiet | Customers who say no or complain | A hard limit on messages, and stop when asked |
| Review | Asking a happy customer for a review | Replying to bad reviews | Ask once, never push |
Four numbers that show whether it works
A dashboard is not required. A notebook or spreadsheet is enough. Record one normal week before you start, then compare each week after. Use your own numbers.
| Metric | How to compute it | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Reply time | Time between the customer's first message and your first reply. Check the timestamps on 10 to 20 chats and take the middle value. | How long buyers wait before they go to another page |
| Enquiry-to-order rate | Confirmed orders divided by new enquiries, times 100. Use the same week for both. | How many chats turn into sales |
| Recovered silent chats | Customers who had gone quiet and then ordered after a follow-up, divided by the silent chats you followed up, times 100. | Whether follow-up is earning money or only sending messages |
| Return rate | Parcels returned or refused divided by parcels sent, times 100. | Whether orders are real and correct. A rising rate can mean fake orders or wrong addresses |
Read the four together. A faster reply time with a higher return rate can mean orders are being taken without proper confirmation. For the return side, read how to reduce fake COD orders.
A worked example with round numbers
Imagine a seller who gets 200 new enquiries in a month, confirms 40 orders and sends them all. Eight parcels come back. In the same month, 60 customers asked the price and went quiet, and the seller followed up with none of them.
| Metric | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiry-to-order rate | 40 ÷ 200 × 100 | 20% |
| Return rate | 8 ÷ 40 × 100 | 20% |
| Recovered silent chats | 0 followed up, so nothing to measure | Not started |
Now suppose the next month the seller follows up with those 60 quiet customers, once each, and 9 of them order. The recovered rate is 9 ÷ 60 × 100, which is 15%. If the other numbers stayed the same, that adds 9 orders, so 49 orders from 200 enquiries, and the enquiry-to-order rate becomes 24.5%.
The numbers also carry a warning. If 20% of parcels are still returned, nine more orders may bring about two more returns. Recovered chats have value only when the order details and payment step are sound. That is why the return rate sits beside the sales numbers.
Seven mistakes that cost money
- Free discounting: an AI told to "close the sale" with no limit will discount for anyone who asks. Decide in advance how much, if any, it may give.
- No price floor: without a lowest price, the AI has no point at which to stop bargaining. Set one for every product.
- No handover: every chat needs a way for you or your team to step in, and the AI should stop replying once you do. See lead management for Facebook sellers for how to tell which chats deserve your time.
- Allowing invented policy: a return rule, delivery time or warranty that you never wrote down. Give it your real rules, and instruct it to stay silent where there is none.
- Confirming orders with no payment rule: decide when an order counts as confirmed, such as after an advance or a delivery charge, and keep to it.
- Too many follow-ups: one or two courteous messages is service. Five is spam.
- Not reading the chats: read a sample of real replies every week, in Bangla, English and Banglish.
How LeadRevive approaches it
LeadRevive is our product. It is an AI team for chat sellers, and it covers the funnel above. It replies in Bangla, English and Banglish on Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, working from your products and rules. When a customer bargains, it negotiates only down to the floor price you set. It collects name, phone and address, asks for the advance or delivery charge, and follows up with customers who go quiet. You can take over any chat and switch Autopilot off for the whole team or per agent. It works with your own Steadfast, Pathao or RedX accounts. See features, or get started.
Frequently asked questions
What is AI sales automation?
It is software that handles the repeated parts of selling: answering questions, collecting order details, asking for payment and following up. For a chat seller, it works inside Messenger, Instagram or WhatsApp. Terms are defined in the glossary.
Can AI really close a sale on its own?
It can take a customer from question to confirmed order when the product, price and payment rules are clear. Special prices, disputes and promises you did not approve belong to a person.
Will AI give away discounts?
Only if you allow it. Set a floor price for each product, and the AI bargains no lower than that. Without a floor, nothing limits what it can agree to.
Does it work in Bangla and Banglish?
Customers mix Bangla, English and Banglish, so an AI sales assistant must read all three. Test any tool with your own real messages, including photos and voice notes, before you rely on it.
How do I know it is working?
Track reply time, enquiry-to-order rate, recovered silent chats and return rate, and compare them with a normal week before you started. Read a sample of real replies every week as well.
Is sales automation worth it for a small page?
It depends on volume. With a few messages a day, you can handle them yourself. When chats accumulate while you sleep or work, or customers keep going quiet, automation begins to pay for itself.
