What F-commerce means
F-commerce is short for Facebook commerce. A seller shows products on a Facebook page or in a group, and the sale happens in the inbox. There is no website checkout. The conversation is the counter.
In Bangladesh the term often covers all selling through social media, so Instagram and WhatsApp sellers are included. The model is the same: a post or an ad brings a person to a chat, and the chat becomes an order.
How F-commerce works in Bangladesh
- Post: the seller shares photos, a price and a short description on the page, in a group or in an ad.
- Inbox: a customer comments "price koto?" or messages the page. The seller replies with price, size, colour and delivery details.
- Order: the customer gives name, phone and address, and the seller confirms the order.
- Payment: the customer pays cash on delivery, or sends an advance or the delivery charge by bKash or Nagad. Some pay by Visa or Mastercard through a payment link.
- Delivery: the seller books a courier, and the courier delivers and collects the cash if the order is cash on delivery.
- After the sale: parcel updates, returns, and a message to bring the customer back.
Most of this is done by hand, by the owner or a small team. As a page grows, chat becomes the constraint.
Why F-commerce grew so quickly
- Low cost to start: a page is free, and a few products and a phone are enough.
- Buyers are already there: people spend their time on Facebook and Messenger, and the seller meets them there.
- Familiar payment: cash on delivery and mobile wallets such as bKash and Nagad let a buyer pay without a card.
- Courier reach: courier companies carry parcels across the country, so a small seller can ship outside their own city.
- Trust through conversation: a buyer asks questions and reads the answers before paying, which a fixed website page cannot offer.
Published estimates of the size of F-commerce differ widely, because sources count different things: Facebook pages, active sellers or sales value. This guide therefore gives no market-size figure.
How to start F-commerce in seven steps
- Choose what to sell. Pick something you can source reliably, photograph well and describe honestly. Confirm the price covers the product, packing, delivery and returns.
- Set up the page. Use a clear name, a profile picture, a short "about" with your phone number and delivery areas, and a pinned post that explains how to order.
- Write your rules down. Prices, sizes, delivery charge, delivery time, return policy and areas served. Customers ask these every day.
- Decide how you take payment. Cash on delivery is familiar but invites fake orders. Many sellers ask for the delivery charge or a small advance by bKash or Nagad first. Read how to reduce fake COD orders.
- Arrange delivery. Open an account with the courier you will use, learn its pickup and return rules, and pack every parcel the same way.
- Check whether registration applies to you. The next section sets out the official guideline.
- Start small and measure. Record orders, returns and weekly hours spent on chat, so you know what to improve first.
Registration: what the official guideline states
The Ministry of Commerce introduced a Digital Business Identification number (DBID) for online businesses. A Daily Star report dated 30 June 2022 on the guideline says online businesses need a DBID to operate, that existing digital commerce entities were to apply within 90 days of the guideline's publication, and that a trade licence is not required if the business has an official website or social media page. It also says an e-commerce or F-commerce platform can apply using the company chairman's national identification number, and that businesses must show their DBID on their website or social media page.
Five common problems and how to control them
| Problem | What it looks like | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Chat overload | Many messages at once, slow replies, buyers leaving for another page | Prepared answers to common questions, a defined order flow, and a tool or a person covering busy hours |
| Fake orders and returns | Parcels refused at the door, you pay delivery both ways | Order confirmation by the customer, an advance or delivery charge by bKash or Nagad, and a record of repeat offenders |
| Trust | Buyers fear paying and receiving nothing or something different | Real photos, honest descriptions, a written return policy, and prompt, courteous replies |
| Stock mistakes | Taking orders for items you no longer have | One stock list, updated daily |
| Lost leads | People ask the price and never hear from you again | A fast first reply and one courteous follow-up |
Most of these problems share one cause: the owner handles every chat by hand. As a page grows, automating the repeated work is the logical next step.
How LeadRevive approaches it

Frequently asked questions
What is F-commerce in simple words?
It is selling through a Facebook page and its inbox. The customer messages the page, the seller takes the order in chat, and a courier delivers it. Other terms are in the glossary.
Do I need a website to start F-commerce?
No. A Facebook page and a phone are enough to begin. Many sellers add a website once orders are steady.
Do I need a trade licence?
The 2022 report on the Ministry of Commerce guideline said a DBID can be obtained without a trade licence if the business has an official website or social media page. Rules change, so confirm on the official pages or consult a professional.
Is cash on delivery or bKash better?
Cash on delivery is easy for buyers but brings fake orders and returns. Requesting the delivery charge or a small advance by bKash or Nagad first filters out many of them. Many sellers offer both.
How do I handle too many messages?
Write down answers to the questions you hear most, define a clear order flow, and consider a tool that replies for you while you keep the ability to step in. See business automation for chat sellers.
Does LeadRevive replace my courier?
No. You keep your own courier accounts. LeadRevive works with your Steadfast, Pathao or RedX account to book the parcel from the order.
